GameCube Cooling Solution Would This Heatsink Work?

Re: GameCube Cooling Solution

People use all sorts of things. You can have a separate heatsink for each processors or one big heatsink, a built-in fan or an external fan. It just depends on what you can make work.

do you have anything you would suggest i should order
No, not personally. I was going to suggest something but I haven't experimented with heatsinks myself.

I have tried the heatsink you have ordered specifically. However, I really only have experience with the wii. It seemed to cool the wii system quite well, but the problem is that the fan blows DOWN onto the heatsink instead of up away from it. This is bad for putting it inside a shell because it will blow the hot air into the case rather than out of it.

"Well just reverse the polarity"
Unfortunately, you can't do that easily. The motors are brushless, so simply swapping the wires will simply make it stop working, as the power runs to a microcontroller before the fan. Even worse, the assembly is riveted and glued together, so you cannot open it for modification without completely obliterating it.

I would suggest looking through peoples gamecube worklogs to figure out what they used.

Smaller heatsink= less surface area = less cooling

cut the stock heatsink to 9mm and use an asus eepc fan. got that tip from Zenloc
Which fan are you talking about specifically? There seem to be mutiple models of it when I google the name.

Hi guys,

Just a quick question.
How do you attach the original gamecube heatsink to the mobo to get good contact to cool the cpu.
You can't screw it back onto the mobo because theres no threads :S

Any help would be great, thanks

You can use epoxy or hot glue maybe to secure the heatsink but you might have to get new thermal compound to keep the bottom part attached to the heatsink

I used thicker screws and drove them from the bottom of the motherboard up into the heatsink
