gamecube controller board problem

recently, I began tinkering with the GameCube motherboard, not doing much in particular. i happened to take all of the components off save the controller plug, the power plug, and the a/v plug. with this, it worked perfectly. However, when I removed the controller board and wired a controller directly, the led would only flash momentarily, and nothing would show up on the screen the av plug is plugged into. I checked my traces, and I do not believe there are any shortcuts, but I could always be wrong, as I am relatively new to this. Anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: IDK what I even did, but I came downstairs to my "lab" this morning, and it worked perfectly, hooray for my pointless thread...
