Extending CCFL wires

I need to extend the wires of a CCFL backlight. However, I'm completely aware of it's high voltage nature because I got zapped by it and I keeled over for a second. I have some similar HV wire from an old laptop display. How about the insulation? Black tape alone isn't probably enough, but would some hot glue wrapped with black tape cut it?

I don't wanna LED mod it.

I bet electrical tape alone will do the job. two layers definitely will.

I've used IDE wire and scotch tape even, one layer. It is very high voltage, but the current is fairly low, so don't worry too much.

That doesn't mean you should do it wrong on purpose! Try to use solid core wires, and use electrical tape if it's handy.
