Danse Manatee Cube

This gamecube portable is inspired by Animal collective's album Danse Manatee. I'm making this for my sister for her birthday and this is her favorite band. If you want to listen to the band, dont listen to this album cause it's really strange and you probably won't like it.

I made the case 2 weeks ago, but just got around to painting it today. She is going to paint some manatees on it by hand when it dries so this present isn't going to be a surprise really.

This thing is freaking amazing. It looks exactly like the album cover. It's interesting watching an artist paint up close and all. We're basically blasting Animal Collective as loud as the record player can go and all. Pretty appropriate for the case process

This looks great! Did you use the inside organizer thing from a GBA Carrying case as the case?

Yup. It's going to be hard to fit everything cause the case in only 3cm thick I believe. I may end up making a spacer with an extra gba carrying case I have if necessary.

Artists make things look too easy! She finished it in just 20 minutes. I can't get over how good it looks. Gonna clear coat it in a little bit and then pictures.

I'm not making it for myself. This is for my sister and she painted it. Idk. I dont like that album very much either.

The back is staying green. I personally think there should be another manatee on the back but the artist doesn't want to

How did you make the back? Out of a piece of MDF board or something?

It's just some .1 inch styrene sheet I had left over from a vac form.

I got all the buttons mounted in there besides the dpad. I'm doing the analog sticks a bit different. They are normal analog sticks but they are mounted right up against the case and I cut most of the cap off. I've done this method before on another portable I've made and it worked out pretty well. I havent worked on this for weeks and my sister has lost confidence that I will finish it in time for her birthday, which is tomorrow. I woke up early today cause I have to finish it or atleast get it functional or else she will give me a big "I told you so". I'll show her wrong. I got most of th controls wired up and I just successfully wired up my wiikey. Maybe I'll actually finish a gamecube portable without breaking a gamecube this time!
