ModRetro IRC: How To Use

*Click here to join the chat.
*Alternatively, if you want to use an irc client on your PC, tablet, phone, or whatever connect to #modretrochat on irc.rizon.net
*After you click the link, select a nickname and leave the rest alone and click connect.
*You will join the channel and it will ask if you want to register your name, please do so. If it asks for a password instead, the name is taken and you must choose a new one.
*Once you register your name, PM a staff member on here with your nickname and they will give you voice ("+" next to name) to show you are who you say you are. You can still chat without voice or even without registering, but everyone please keep in mind you can only be 100% sure you are talking to who you think you are if they have voice.

*Staff: Do the same as above, except PM me instead and I'll make sure to give you OP as well as give you a few links if you haven't used IRC previously.

Enjoy the temporary MR IRC Channel.

I'm suddenly quite simply not able to connect to the IRC.

I can connect to the rizon website, but not the chat at all.

Maybe I need a proper client?

EDIT: a dedicated client works. Maybe my isp?

Check the port forwarding settings on your router. IRC uses its own port and if you're using a client to directly connect to the server that port has to be enabled. (I believe port 6667 is the default, but check with the chat host to see what they require.)

The AJAX chat is just a mess of PHP and JavaScript running through good old port 80, just like all other HTTP traffic.

e: port forwarding, firewall settings, basically anything that will block traffic coming from or going to the public Internet that I'm too lazy to get the terminology right every time. :dah:

I don't understand port forwarding because I'm a good computer kid.

Hardly anyone bothers with port forwarding because like bic said, most of the internet goes through port 80 nowadays.

Some routers are easier than others to forward. I know JD had problems because he was using an apple router on a PC.

Mine, I just go to my IP and go into settings.

it might look like you have to pay for the service, but it's just an ad, click "skip this advertisement" in the top corner.

Anyway, Ima go take bics advice and see what happens.

EDIT: tried ports 6660 through 6669, and port 113, still wont connect to the server through the provided client.
