Carlifirio's GCp Worklog

I think I found what the problem was... Its very obvious and I don't know why I didn't realize it before.

It was a TV not a screen.

I was only outputing the video signal to the TV and no Ground.

-_-

That is pretty funny. As my screen is dead, I test my gamecube on my TV and I don't need to put ground, only composite video. Also I first had the same problem as you, chips working but no video. But this happened to me when connecting both video composite and ground to the TV.
I think there is some mystery in those cubes that we don't get

This kind of issue looks very mainstream, as it happened to me everytime I trimmed down a mobo, and one day or another it started working for no reason.

Anyway, great to know that your problem is fixed

Well it's not fixed it's what I plan to do whenever I have the time. Will do now that I have that power adapter from tiemahshoo! (Thanks Tiemahshoo :) )

EDIT: It's pretty weird since this board I did trim it with precaution! And yeah this is weird as heck since I'm even getting .7 volts from the video line. (Which is the normal output ) Guys I've tested every fricking line and it's all fine! I'm sure this cube works perfectly. If anyone can get the answer to this mystery I'd highly appreciate it!

I think the better thing to do is to desolder everything you have soldered on the mobo. Clean everything as much as you can, check any possible short. The cube should start. If it starts then you haven't fried your cube and just take extreme care when soldering back everything.
If it doesn't start, check again for any short, but you probably killed something...

Is it pal or ntsc ?? If pal, open up the little box of the av cable and try to bypass the cap and resistor. This was needed on my cheap screen.

Well I got another cube working I guess I'm gonna work on that one then! :D

With VIDEO and EVERYTHING!!! :D :D :D :D

Only thing I'm gonna change is the cube and instead of DVD Drive .... A wii key fusion!

Pics coming tomorrow maybe!

I know this hasn't been updated in awhile but basically, everything above is working...

Aside from that I already picked up my WKF, but I wanted to make sure it worked so I ordered an ffc adaptor from newhavendisplay.

It has been delivered and I will solder it tomorrow if I get the chance to pick it up.

After that's done, all that's left to do is the case!

:)

I had the same video problem on my DOL-001 v1.1 Almost OMGWTF cut(thanks Tchay for helping); put it to the side for now, as I got a rev C given to me. These GCs are temperamental in the sense, you can short something/knock it around/just about kill it on one board, and can't on another. Do keep up the great work, though!

Thanks Tchay and AteOeight

I did pick up the NHD-FFC36 but unfortunately I can't solder it until Tuesday. I'm busy until then with other stuff. But I promise I'll solder it Tuesday and post results.

I have already formatted the card to FAT 32 and then to WBFS because mega had said he recommends you don't immediately format it to WBFS...

I have put 3 games on it and the 1.5 update.

Well, that's it until Tuesday! :)

Welp, I got to work on my WKF today....

I basically soldered wires to the breakout board, (IDE, solid gauge wire, very neatly in groups of 4.)

I also soldered the tact switches which I found on an old computer mouse (normally closed)

(I have a spare one if anyone wants it)

Also tomorrow Im gonna solder the wires to the CPU pinouts and I have a question...

Do you guys tin the pinouts first, or do you poke the wires through the CPU holes and then solder them??

Thanks! :D

Awesome thanks man I was having trouble tinning the hole and then putting the wire over it and pushing with the iron.

I guess I'll do your method tomorrow! :)

Flux will help alot here if your not using it currently. Just a tiny drop will do you and it helps me solder a bit quicker.

Weird, I just soldered the wiikey now and when the cube boots up the blue light flashes.. As normal

I got to the disc screen and press the button tact switch...

blue light flashes, reading disc, then please insert gamecube disc, and finally Could Not Read Disc...

All those messages flash in that order very fast...

Good news is that the orange LED NEVER flashes...

Please Help

if it doesnt work, it's almost always the wiring. Make sure the wiikey is inserted into the connector pcb properly. Use a multimeter to check it. Check region switches too.

Thanks I have checked it like 20 times...

:)

BTW is it normal for the update to say PAL in the WBFS manager???

Also when I press the switch it keeps doing the same: please insert disc, Disc could not be read...
