Burd64- Update- 56K FAIL

Re: Another N64 Portable

that will do.
edit
finally took pics of weeks old casework.

it's got flaws which I can work out later on.
and it's got a missing gamecube joystick cover(not done).

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

So Is that pretty smooth by now, or do you have more bondo/resin/epoxy/filler of your choice/ work to do?

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

yes I do.(good, because there are big nooks and crannies I need to fill)

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

okay, so I finally finished another cart slot relocation. First, I unplugged the psu from my other non working n64. I power it up and it didn't work. I got my second power supply(my only other one) and plugged it into my newly relocated cart slot n64.(they were both relocated cart slots on the n64s)I got a green screen, telling me that I had a connection problem that is fixable.(I think) I tried the new PSU on my other n64, and guess what? It didn't start up. I plug it back into my other n64 and it wouldn't start either :gonk: So, I have no power supplies left, and my cart slot was a failure(is it fixable?)

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

Unplug the PSU, wait a while and try again. It has to reset.

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

I like the way you did yours, mako. I removed the disc lid on my psone case, and cut out a space for the psone lcd. Yours will probably end up looking better. Good job! :demonpie:

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

unless I want the psone screen really low down(ugly), I need to use a smaller screen, hence the DX ones in my basement.
oh, and the psone screen mobo would need to be cut down pretty well.
and try to hacksaw a purple n64 controller like the one I used, it smells pretty weird.

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

They do. I got some weird fumes wafting around when I melted my jungle green one.

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

QUICK UPDATE!
I trimmed down a fried n64 with removed components(and some ripped leads) the best I could, but can have a few mm off each side with a bit mroe sanding. If somebody could do an rcp wiring for me, I could basically fit the motherboard into a snes cart!
pics uploading.
this was done a few weeks ago too, but whatever.
I don't think my n64p will have a relocated cart slot. It isn't that tall and I could possibly make it nice like ben's atari 2600p's. The n64 cart isn't too tall, either.
also, did 2 more regular cart slot relocations, neither worked but I think I might be able to fix one of them. The other one is a lost cause.

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

The whole cart slot thing is more getting it to hold a cartridge safely without the cartridge falling off or being bumped off of the slot. If I ever get around to my N64p in a PSone case, I was gonna cut out where the AV / power ports are and have it sticking out about an inch and a half there if I can fit it :)

Re: Another N64 Portable(now apparently dubbed the Burd64)

If I don't relocate the cart slot, I am defenitley using an ag-54 case. I can fit it in there.(pics just finished uploading, getting links and such now)

PICS:
they are huge, watch out!
Next to a Gameboy Colour.(Nintendo spelled it wrong)

I could defenitley trim this more to get the *Can'tSayThisOnTV*er in the snes cart, but at this point I'm not sure if the motherboard would work in this state at all.
If anybody wants to try trimming their board down to here(or with the cart slot area intact), tell me if it works!
the first pic is a bit messed up, I think my camera made the motherboard look a bit smaller than it is.
(yes thursty, this is the n64 you sent me and that burn mark on the back was yours too)(and that is your gbc too, but that carpet is mine sadly)

Okay, prepare from critic judgement, You did Dang well cutting the unneeded boarding of, you nicely cut the holes out, so far so good. And if you get frustrated and start hating life, don't get a gun and start shooting everything in sight. LOL :dahroll:  :lolscroll:

Very small which is good, but looks like flux. Try to keep it a nice rectangle on the final version. No point in hacking it like that.

I'm not to sure you'll be able to rewire that one... It looks like you've cut quite a few tiny traces along the edges. It's definitely possible to rewire but very difficult

You can't cut through any of the traces going between RCP, CPU and RAM, in fact most traces can't be rewired. So be careful, and only cut off what's cut-off-able.

How would you wire a controller to that? It looks like the controller port circuitry is gone...

Looks inside don't matter for flax.

Some stuff could fit in the areas inside a rectangle shaped cutdown that he cut out, like relocated capacitors, or joysticks or battery pcbs or pth08000. Might as well cut it as small as you can.

actually, I'm at less than a millimeter away from the rcp/cpu lines. The controller pins are not actually gone. I can solder them directly to whatever those caps/resistors are if I feel like trimming more or can wire it to the circular pads.(I think ss did that or sumpin) I can trim a bit more at the top where the rcp traces are(not rcp to cpu) and at the power switch.other side of the board underneath the cpu traces. Lastly, it would be perfect to have the case at that shape because I can fit the n64 into an ag-54 with that trim  sadly, without screw posts though, unless I have it at some certain angle I think.
edit
snowpenguino is right, it does help to shave off that area just for that kind of stuff.(where else would I fit a pth08080 and control stuff?
edit
frozener, don't worry, this is a fried board that I happened to trim. It is beyond repair, and can't be used anymore.
edit
I have a plan if ss and jlee want to agree to it. Jlee sends a n64 to ss, he rcp wires it(I read that he'll do it for 20 bucks) and sends it to me for other things :awesome:
and yes, I prefer a file to a saw for cutting this stuff. It is much easier than using a saw blade, either.(I also sanded the top left corner to make it smooth, but will probably trim it some more for no reason, smooth it and eat it.(or just post pics)
