3,000 Player skirmish in EVE, $20,000+ in carnage

action begins at around the 3 minute mark.

A titan ship (the biggest and most valuable ships in the game) can both space "jump", and space "bridge" where it can warp entire fleets into areas.

In this case, a large alliance wanted to obliterate a smaller alliances territory, because they were bored. However in an interesting turn of events, the titan jumped instead of bridging (the keys are right next to each other apparently). Stranded in enemy territory, the smaller alliance quickly massed a fleet to try and destroy the titan. The larger alliance quickly masses a fleet to fight them back, while a rival alliance warps in to balance the battle. In a matter of minutes, alliances from all over the games universe were warping into the sector to try and force their hand in the battle, and quickly escalated to 2500+ players as no one wanted to lose out on this war.

From what I understand, it costs effectively $2000 (in game resources to in game currency to USD) to build a Titan, not to mention the weeks it takes to build them, and the years it takes to get the skill to pilot one. As you could imagine then, the carnage soon gained quite a price.

The games servers have a system where they literally slow down time to compensate for lag. In this battle, time was slowed down to 10% of normal speed in the area.

All in all, it seems to be a pretty big deal for the game.

Its times like these I wish I played this flax. I love the game, but I simply do not have the time to play it. In order to get anywhere you need to put in at least 4 hours a day. Its awesome, but *Can'tSayThisOnTV*.

From what I heard, you might only need to put in a lot of hours until you are fit for service in an alliance. Then with careful time management and a lucrative "career" you need only play for a couple hours a day.

Other interesting eve Stories:

A player sets up an isk(in game currency) bank, promising a modest return on funds invested. Returns are reliably delivered and the bank increases in popularity. The director of the bank eventually takes the money and runs: roughly $2000 - $8000 worth. The investors are left with nothing.

A player sets up a business that involves making copies of extremely expensive blueprints and selling them. The business attracts investors because the owner cannot take the money and run: the blueprints are secured by the corporation and cannot be released except by vote of the board. Billions of isk are invested and the business runs smoothly for many months. The owner announces that he wants to expand the business and, as such, make more room on the board for investors. In a deft exploitation of game mechanics he convinces the existing shareholders to expand the board and subsequently takes control of the additional seats, gaining vote power to release the blueprints. He takes the blueprints and runs.

Also; never realized my join date was at such a rounded time.
