Vcr head scroll wheel

So I finally decided to get to work on a vcr head scroll wheel. I wanted to do this because there was minimal soldering to do and I thought it would be a good starting place. Here is essentially what I want to do http://www.instructables.com/id/Spinner-Jog-Wheel-Inside-of-a-VCR-Head/?ALLSTEPS

So the tearing apart of the vcr was going well until I came across these screws holding the head together http://i.imgur.com/z27tALK.jpg I'm not too sure how I can get into the wheel, and i want to because there is this annoying ribbon cable coming out of the bottom of it that will really get in the way of what I want to do with it. Anyone know what I need to get these out?

Use an Allen wrench or a hex driver.
for the brass bit up top, just undo the black hex screw a quarter turn and it should slide off, if it doesn't, go ahead and pull the screw some more.

Yeah just about as soon as I posted this I tried that and it all worked. The tiny black screws were so dark though that I couldn't make out the shape of the head
