I want to buy a dremel.

I mean, I have a dremel. It's a generic off-brand dremel but it's a bit too fast to actually work with plastic, and it's not battery powered. I want to buy a proper dremel, battery powered (unless you have a really good argument why I shouldn't buy one that is battery powered). You people obviously know this better than me, so what do you all recommend?

I'm currently looking at these, which cost relatively the same:
-Dremel 1100 (http://cgi.ebay.de/Dremel-Stylus-1100-1 ... 5ad3f11580)
-Dremel 8000JF (http://cgi.ebay.de/Dremel-10-8-V-Lithiu ... 5885e49d6e http://cgi.ebay.de/Dremel-10-8V-Lithium ... 5d27922a1a)

those are the cheapest ones that I could find. Any recommendations?

Mine goes from like 30000 to 50000. It's annoying, but that's irrelevant. Which one should I pick?

Heck if I know. My Dremel is ancient and without battery. But it gets the job done. I always use the diamond cutter tool.

The stylus isn't a real Dremel. The lithium one is pretty cool but you are best off with a standard wired Dremel. Nothing wrong with the cordless, really, but it'll cost more and Dremels are already pretty expensive.

The convenience is worth it for me, even if I'm not that fluent ATM.

Well if the stylus is not a real dremel, then I guess I'll be going with the other one. Out of interest, what's different?

If you put a variable pot on the power cord, you can make it more variable.

I seriously do not recommend this. That pot is going to get hot. A dimmer, however, should do the trick.

depends on the pot. if its like 10k then yeah. crazy. but if its made for high voltage ac, like out of a lamp, then it should be just fine. ;)

but I want it battery powered! Waaah!

Incidentally, I bought an 8000JF. It's nice. it's hard to resist the temptation to cut a hole into everything in my room

Lol. I'm kind of a hypochondriac so I avoid cutting inside, especially stuff like mobos. I cut some wood in here, it smelled pretty bad

Well I was talking about mobos. Wood just smells bad.

Incidentally, I totally love this dremel. Definitely recommended buy.

Dremels are fun to cut colored pencils with - I did that to a few and dust that was the same color as the pencil went everywhere every time I cut a pencil in half. It was pretty awesome :)

A while back I got my first real Dremel. Way better than the generic piece of flax! I cut through a bolt for no real reason and dremeled some indents into the table. Of course, I used it for serious work too, like my YAP64 case.

I recently bought a 200 series dremel, and it only cost me $60. It cuts through plastic pretty well, but isn't quite strong enough for aluminum. Definitely strong enough for most plastic, though.
