Guitar Pedal

I like purpale ponies
I decided to make a guitar pedal for my friend's birthday present, he's a pretty cool guy.
It's going to be a ValveCaster, as seen here:

Built into an Altoids tin, of course.
HUUUUUUGE PICS

All I need now is a 50k gain potentiometer, a 9v power source and a way of turning the thing on/off and going from clean to this and such.
An LED would be pretty cool too, wouldn't it?

"Guitar pedal" implies... "pedal." I'm no guitar expert but it looks like stepping on that thing would destroy it.

So, yeah, it's technically an effects box but that's just nitpicking - it's a really clean altoids case and that tube-whatsit sticking out looks slick.

It looks like you can cram a 9V battery in there and still close it, even with a little battery tab connector thingy so it's changable.

That'd be a pretty tight fit, looks like that tube goes down at least halfway into the box.

Oh, it all fits nicely.
Problem is that after testing it with my new potentiometer, I get a buzz from power line interference.
That and the tube is supposedly broken, when it's in there I get a high pitched squeal and after turning it off, it makes a quick squeal and goes off. Also, no sound.

Shield the audio lines. That should take away the interference
Yep, I'll just get some grounded foil in there that's covered up with tape or something.
