Hey, I have been wondering what is the best or longest lasting way to fix an Xbox 360 with the 3 red lights...
I opened one of mine and did a re-flow with a heat gun then applied arctic silver, and closed it up and it worked... but after about a month the error returns.

Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks! ;)

Gonna need an error code, or any info whatsoever other than that you have a RROD.

Did you actually reflow it, or just heat the crap out of it without actually reflowing? I don't know if there's any reliable way to check that, though.

From my research:
Cooling mods- Will not actually fix an RROD, but may help prevent them.
X-clamp fix- Usually works for a while, then stops working.
Overheat "fix"- Works for a bit, then dies.
Reflow- Works, if you actually get it hot enough to reflow and not just overheat it.

That being said, I'm not an expert. There are other people with more expertise on this forum.

I have fixed 3 in my lifetime, one of which is the Basement 360.

I do the following:

1-Remove X-Clamps
2-use heat gun on board to reflow solder
3-replace thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5
4-Use machine screws in the following order:
..........a)nylon washer on back of board
..........b)screw through board
..........c)nylon on top of board
..........d)heatsink screwed on VERY tightly but EVENLY
5-Screw GC fan/ similar 12v fan into CPU heatsink
6-Connect 12v to stock fans
7-dust EVERYTHING
8-put cardboard divider into fan shroud to designate 1 fan to each chip
9-?????
10-PROFIT

for the E74 i've:

remove the x-clamps and the heatsink
put on the Xbox
let it shutdown with temperature
and imediately after shutting down putting the heatsink and the clamp

after, you'll get a traditional ROD with only 3 Led and repair it like any other

without the heat gun.

The xbox is quiet fragile with this because it don't have IHS on die. So i've found usefull to mention that can be without HG

OMG, i've never look at the date of this post

sorry for this dude
