As my first post (With pictures), I will be showing my Sword and Shield.
I will first show you the Crusader Shield and the Defiant Blade.

The Sword has been constructed with pvc pipe, a hollow metal rod, a metal handle, a plastic support, duck tape and hot glue, LOTS OF HOT GLUE!

The Shield has been constructed with the stand of a plastic fan, a belt, a long velcro strap and duck tape.
(Gotta love that duck tape!)

Now I know they look bad but trust me, These swords can take on a Cold Steel training sword.

The shield has a metal grid behind it, So it is not just a lid from a box.
It won't crack under pressure. (TESTED.)

The sword is made from the rod of a fan and also has metal rod reinforcement on the inside.
As well as duck tape and hot glue being one of the main things to hold the sword together.

Still more to come, So hang on.

*Note: These are training swords and shields.

*trying hard not to ridicule*

They are quite rough, and I doubt they would be too useful when the zombies pop up, but not bad for a first effort. (this is first effort, right?)

I havent really done anything like that for several years, (since 7th grade, godDang) but theres a Heck of a pile of makeshift weapons behind my garage. If you need build tips I can prolly help.

I'd be happy to receive help or tips, Thanks.

And, Why would not be useful in a zombie apocalypse? They only LOOK bad but they are stronger then they look.

What's bad about them? Explain please.

You gotta destroy the brains! Lopping off limbs is also good. Short of removing em with blunt force trauma, which is, unsurprisingly, very time consuming, your setup is totally useless, and using it would likely get you eaten.

As for whats bad about it, most of my points would involve the words, "Does not make fire," so I'll refrain from making those points.

Points I will make:
- Thats the base off of a fan. It will take impact about as well as Christmas ornaments.
- I quote: "hollow metal rod." Just no. Anything pipe based is a bad idea for hitting things, unless its got REALLLLLY hefty sidewalls. (Steel, 1/4" is a good baseline)
- PVC. Dont get me wrong, I love the stuff, and it has its uses. It also shatters. Generally a bad idea for much other than decoration on this type of deal.
- Duct tape. Love it too. But it dries up and falls apart pretty quickly.

Tips:
- Little bolts are a quick way to hold something together. Much more robust than hotglue, tape, etc. Great if you cant weld.
- Start with metal. The stronger the base is the stronger the final product is. I built an axe, pretty early on (06, maybe) and it was really cool. The blades were my first metal ones, plate steel. The handle was Abs pipe with a wooden core. I spent quite a while on making it pretty (pretty is relative. It was lame) and the first time I used it the handle broke. pissed me off something awful, and I never did fix it.
- If you use pipe, reinforce it. Get a wooden dowel, preferably maple or oak or other hardwood that fits snugly in your pipe and use it as a core. also good for reducing vibration with metal pipe.
- build tough, then pretty. Dont build it to be pretty, unless you are actually good at design, because it generally comes out ugly and weak. I guess Im saying work with what you can make.
- start with the handle. Always. then build out. Helps with getting the balance right. Plus, Ive built really epic blades and then realized they really dont work at all when you put em on a sword.
- scrap parts, junk, you name it, its useful.
- If your blade and handle arent one piece, use a rubber buffer. It helps vibration, impact and lessens the likelihood of anything breaking.
- Make something that shoots fire.

Besides its ineffectiveness against zombies, I have to say my swords are quite strong, I know I tested them in battle!
As for the shield it defends very well, Again tested, the fan stand is quite strong, And makes for a great shield.

Re: Point: Shield, As I stated takes impact very well.
- Hollow metal rod works good, Tested, I sword fight ya know, Against real people.
- PvC. Yes, It shatters easily, I know, But it makes a good skeleton for a weapon.
- So far none of my duck tape has dried up or fallen off.

The tips are good but keep in mind that I DO sword fight with real people and offen times people do get hurt.
Thank for the tips though.

Beta makes his own swords. Like steel ones. What you have there appears to be a rod, not a sword.

It is a TRAINING SWORD, I do NOT make swords that cut anything, I fight with these and these DO count as swords, Training Swords.
