3.5mm Jack Voltage

What is the voltage output of an 3.5mm audio jack?
I need to get it to 3V (+ or - .3V). Would I use a voltage step-up regulator? If so, which one?

Are you talking about the peak voltage of the audio signal, or are you trying to just get straight voltage out?

I need to get a consistent 3V out, so I am trying to find a way to do so.
I don't know whether I'd need a step up regulator, or resistor/s, step down regulator, etc.

Thanks.

Thanks heaps.
Would you be able to quickly explain where to wire each component? I am very new to this.

On a side note, isn't that the regulator used in N64P's

Sorry Beta, I don't understand how to wire the regulator correctly.

All I need from the USB is the 5V and the ground, yes?
And I can ignore the other two connections.

Then from there, which wire goes straight to the regulator and which goes to the resistor then to the regulator?
Lastly, where do I connect the laser to the regulator?

Hope this makes sense.

First image in the guide Beta linked. Your 5v wire is the red one (into hole 1), and ground is the black (connected to the resistor).

Again, first image.

5v from USB: goes to Hole 1 (red wire)

Ground from USB: Goes to resistor (black wire)

Power for your laser: Goes to Hole 3 (labeled Voltage Out)

Ground for your laser: Goes to Ground from USB

Thanks so much for the help! Sorry I didn't understand the diagram.

If the 'karma' feature was still around I'd definitely plus you heaps haha!
