It's only pointless if you file down the edges.

That said, if it works for you then great. I installed a screen and sensor bar on my wii and I've used it pretty often. It's nice to be able to just grab the whole unit + a power cord and walk, especially if I have to hang around somewhere to wait for something, like a school event I don't care about just for one picture and it wasn't even good and I dont even.
