Do I need a total of 3 custom regulators? Do I need a protection circuit for each regulator and the battery pack?

I'm having trouble re-locating pieces of my 3rd party controller, are there any tips or pitfalls I should be looking for? I can wire my controller and ports fine, but as soon as I start messing with the relocation and buttons, I lose player 1 internal functionality.
