controller problems

I'm having trouble re-locating pieces of my 3rd party controller, are there any tips or pitfalls I should be looking for?

I can wire my controller and ports fine, but as soon as I start messing with the relocation and buttons, I lose player 1 internal functionality.

If we have pictures of your work and a description of exactly what's happening, we can probably find an accurate solution. For now, though I don't know how you are relocating the controller parts, I think the traces you've soldered to have not made adequate contact, or they are bridging. Always clean off the metal contacts, too, if you are keeping the controller's original rubber-membrane buttons.
