believe it or not, i only just started all this just 4 days ago on saturday.

the top piece will be green, the bottom two pieces will stay white. same as how the HandyNES (red mushroom) was done. there will also be a green mushroom sticker on the back, same as the red mushroom.

anyway, here it is after a 2nd coat of krylon fusion (showing just 3 days of work):

i'm still keeping my lips sealed as to what it is exactly. :)

Re: code name: green mushroom

So it has a cart slot and SNES-like controls, but I'm intrigued by the circle cut out underneath the D-pad. Seems like it would be for an analog stick, but what device has SNES-like controls, a single analog stick, and a cart-slot? Also the 2nd player port hole looks a little like the an NES controller connector, but I don't know enough about other consoles to figure out other possibilities for that port.

Re: code name: green mushroom

got the first coat of paint on the front piece. very pleased with how this is turning out. :)

What is that I spy in the background?

Re: code name: green mushroom

well, there's lots of things in the background.

let's see...

there's an atari flashback, a bunch of famicom, game gear, and psp games (in the tower), a painting by my dad, one of the boxes i've been using to spray paint, the power cord to my dremel, some mail, the door bouncy springy thingy...

to what do you refer? :)

I guess that would be the Atari Flashback. I was thinking whatever that was could have been the console that was being stuffed in the green 'shroom.

Re: code name: green mushroom

I'm still trying to work out what the button hole above the screen could be for.

Re: code name: green mushroom

Not sure if posting this in "other systems" is a hint or a ploy to keep us from guessing what it is. :p

I'm going to guess that its a wvi of some sort

Re: code name: green mushroom

Might be a recasing of a portable android console.

Re: code name: green mushroom

only time will tell! if someone guesses it correctly, i will make it public knowledge then. otherwise it won't be until it's done!

i hope to get a good start on the electronics side this weekend. there is A LOT to do electronically. it's gonna take me a while. that's one reason i want the casing done so quickly. lol

Re: code name: green mushroom

ok, i was not happy with how the case was looking. it wasn't seamless enough for my work.

so, i went back to primer. this time, i used actual primer. not fusion. i'm learning that fusion really isn't good for any parts that you use bondo or filler on. only for the plastic parts that aren't modded very much (buttons, cart slot covers, back pieces).

so, anyway, after this disaster happened i decided i needed to strip and primer

it is now seriously looking sexy, all seamless and perfect

Re: code name: green mushroom

i'm thinkin just one more coat of green. generally always do at least 2 coats. then put on the label and 2 clear coats. then the case will pretty much be done.

taste the rainbow

;)

ok, the final coat of green has been done.

all the case has left is putting the name decal on the front and 2 clear coats to protect it. :D

i am really happy about how the case is turning out!

Re: code name: green mushroom

well, i got the clear coats on the front. this means the case is done as soon as it dries. whooooo!

i'm so excited!!!

Re: code name: green mushroom

I'm convinced that this is a 3DS with a giant cart slot added to mess with us.

Re: code name: green mushroom

I've seen stranger things in this forum. :p

Well then, I'm calling it a Vectrex, and there's nothing you can do to stop me.

Re: code name: green mushroom

I'm putting one more guess in and saying it's the "Handy Gen", some sort of portable Sega Genesis. The joystick area might be an 8 way one like in the Neo Geo Pocket, making it perfect for fighting games. And the SNES like button layout might purely to be to save space on the front, moving the C and Z buttons to the triggers.
