Wiikey Fusion Problem

Hey, I just finished adding the Wiikey Fusion to my GC. I turned it on and everything worked fine. So I run the update. I get to the final screen: "Done! Press A to reboot." I do so. And after the GC rebooted it couldn't read the Wiikey anymore. When I go to Game Play it keeps flashing between the messages: "Please insert a NINTENDO GAMECUBE DISC" and "Reading Disc...". And the blue LED isn't turning on. Any ideas?

Make sure its plugged in right, and also test to see if the Wiikey works on a Wii.

I reconnected the FCCs and looked over all connections. Everything looks fine, but it's still not working. I'm going to grab my multimeter in a bit and recheck every individual pin connection. And unfortunately I don't have a Wii to test it on.

Its working fine. You need to hit the "eject" button to load the linux bootloader.

When I hit the eject button the GC freezes. I even added the 1.9v line and it made no difference.

What revision is your motherboard? DOL-CPU-xx?? Printed by the cpu chip. Sounds like an ipl v1.0 board

DOL-CPU-11

I tried turning on the GC while pressing the eject switch and it worked. I rebooted to try it again and it got stuck on "Reading Disc..." I tried it again and got "An error has occurred. Turn the Power Off and check the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions."
I kept trying and eventually got it to start again. Is this how it acts on an IPL v1.0?

Yes, bad luck man. Looks like an IPL v1.0 board. If you hold in the eject switch at boot and time the release of it right it will load the linux loader. However most games will hang when a game is selected and the GC is rebooted. A few will play though. :/

Time to get a new board.

I tried it on my second GC and it's also a v1.0. So disappointing. Does anyone have a >v1.0 Rev A/B board for sale?

More problems >:(. I finally got a Rev. B IPLv1.1 board and wired up the WKF. I can get to the WKF menu fine, but when I start a game I get the error "An error has occurred. Turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo Gamecube Instruction Booklet for further instructions." after a few seconds. I tried SSX: On Tour, SSBM, and Metroid Prime. First two games I only tried like twice, but Metroid Prime I kept attempting. Usually the error would come up after the Nintendo logo. Sometimes it would get past the Nintendo, Retro Studios, and Dolby Audio logos, after a black screen with the background sounds playing then I'd get the error. The last time I tried I was able to get to the menu and start the game, I saw the first lines of text and then got the error. Any ideas?

Sounds like you've got a bad connection somewhere or maybe latency issues. I'd recheck all of your solder joints. How long are your wires? Region switch set correctly?

check the ribbin going to the sd socket. doe's it need to be fliped, is there a hard crease or fold in the ribbin.

All the joints looked fine, but to make sure I desoldered and resoldered every connection and the error persists. My wires are 4" and the region switch is set correctly.

I reconnected both ends of the sd ribbon but it didn't change anything. And there are no creases/folds in the cable.

Maybe it's the class of your SD card. If you have a higher class card, then give it a try.
I'm using an old Kingston 2GB with no class marking so it's most likely a Class 2. I thought this might be it but I don't have another card to test. I'll have to buy one. Is Class 10 overkill? Does it make game loading noticeably faster?

Yeah, that's probably it. Getting a class 10 is definitely a good investment to make.

If you soldered directly to the FFC I'd recheck connections through the FFC first before I invested in another SD card. All the cards I have are like class 4-6 and work fine.
