The wind instrument that plays towards the beginning and at 1:54. It's also played at other various points throughout the song. Does anyone know what instrument this is? I want to get one.

Sounds like a flute to me. Maybe it sounds a little weird because a Piano is playing the same part and the sounds are mixing together well.

I'm sure it's at least some kind of african flute that is alto or lower..

Or maybe an ocarina? alto or lower..

I think it's the closest thing I've found.

Based on the sound, definitely a flute. Based on the note changing, it sounds like some sort of traditional pan flute. It never left key, and in a piece like that for a solo it seems like there would be an accidental unless the instrument in question was fixed key.
