It seems as if my gamecube is backfiring voltage and can't be powered, is that possible?

No, it's not possible for voltage to backfire. Internal combustion engines do that.
You might have something wired wrong, like negative connected to positive, which would... kind of ... be like voltage backfiring, because it's hooked up backwards.
