Untitled N64 Portable Info

Well here it is. The start of my portable. I'm quite afraid of starting this. Most likely because I'm 13 and I have no experience in modding/wiring/soldering. But I'll definitely try. Also, if I do have problems (Which I most DEFINITELY will), it would be amazing if people could help me with said problems. :) .

I'm going to use a protective Wii U Gamepad case for the case of the portable. Although -- I may change my mind, because it is rather wide, and not thick enough (Unless I'm going to trim the Motherboard down quite a lot.

The screen I'm using is a 4.3 Rearview Car Monitor. If this won't work, please tell me.

I'm going to be using either a Nintendo 3DS sliding analog stick, (Because they're quite comfortable, and take up little space.) or a Nintendo GameCube analog stick (Because they're superior to all other analog sticks. ;) ).

I'm also going to use, most likely, the default buttons on the original N64 Controller. But, if you check out the Alpha 64 3rd party controller, the Z, L, and R buttons are quite comfortable, and will work well -- If I do decide to use them.

Not sure what speakers I'm going to use -- It'd be great if someone could tell me what ones to use. :) If not, I can most likely find some.

I'm glad that several of things I'm going to buy (Copper Heatsinks, analog stick, etc.) are quite cheap. Because I'm only willing to spend up to $250 on this project :neutral2: .

I'll start Work-Logs soon, and maybe post Work-Vlogs on YouTube as well.

Cheers,
-Ben.

Hey, Ben!

Your not alone! I was 14 when I created my first portable.

As for your questions, I think the Wii U gamepad cover-case is a good idea. But if you don't have room, there is better options. When It comes to cases, I like to make my own because it is really quite fun, and you learn alot. But I think that it could definitely work, don't let me discourage you.

As for the screen, that should work great. On my first portable I used a 3.5" LCD just like the one you have chosen.

3DS sliders are great, Cheap, and comfortable.

For the shoulder buttons, instead of making the origanal buttons fit inside the case of choice, you can also use the 'frankencasing' method which is very useful. If you havn't heard of it, check it out here: http://downingsbasement.com/my-guides/p ... ing-guide/

Some speakers that work great for small portables are the ones you find in Nintendo Game Boys, DSlites, etc. They are pretty small and afordable. You can buy them cheap from Ebay too.
If those dont work, here are some cheap ones:

If you have any more questions feel free to ask me or any of the other legendary modders on this forum! :p

Wow. Thanks for lots of info! Yeah, I was thinking of frankein-casing the Atari Lynx case (Sort of like the GC Lynx someone made)

I may ask you some other questions at a later time. Thanks a lot!

The wii U protective case look good but they require a lot of frankencasing to make work. Old routers are great for cases, often rectangular, plastic and cheap.
