Yes you can put screwposts in a vacuum formed case. But how are they held in? Usually with hot glue  Or sometimes with epoxy. But either way and if you turn the screw to much the posts break loose. Believe me I have used vacuum formed cases and have even bought them from the best made here (MarshallH) and the screw posts ALWAYS break loose eventually.

A frankenmodded case will always be more sturdy.

I'll have to be disagreeing with hailrazer-I like the way vac formed cases come out.

And how do you add screwposts to a frankencase? WITH GLUE!

yeh at my college they have glue thats welds plastic together
and anyway from what I've seen of franken-modded cases only about 10% are any good

and as a bid to line my protables edges up nicely, I used a sanding mat and made sure the back and front were designed the same size and curveture.

Are you kidding?

Frankenmodded cases are cases that already have screw and screwposts in them. Then you just cut out the area for the screen and for the buttons and then plastic weld and epoxy the surface.

Seriously think before posting.

I've seen all of them from the past year and the ones I've seen from beginner modders are not well made or pleasing to the eye.
But, when made well they look really good, I'm not knocking them, or trying to start some argument over which is better, only trying to say which one I like better.

finishing off the button and screen holes will post pics tommorow.

What are you trying to prove? by being a an egotystical know it all, he's only trying to help!

Hmmm, you seem to be a lot better at frankencasing than most people. Screwposts are usually the first things that go when people frankencase.

An egotystical know it all ?

Go back and re-read the post. I was trying to make a point about why vacuum formed cases are not very good because there is no way to hold the two halves together, unlike modded cases where the two halves are made to join perfectly and are hled togethet perfectly with molded screwposts.

Then I was told in capital letters that modded cases are held together by glue. Which is false information.

So I corrected that.

So how exactly is he just trying to help with wrong information and how am I an egotystical know-it-all for correcting him with correct information.

Yea please explain ?

You can JB-weld screwposts in vacuum-formed cases, too. You can also epoxy them. Glue is not the only option.

Yes I mentioned that and I also know for a fact that they pull loose almost as easily as hot glue held screwposts.

Look everyone can do what they want, but let me say this. Before I started modding I bought several expensive mods from the BH forums. One was the L64 , one was the CherryBomb and one was the Atari from Ben himself. I spent a ton of money on them.

All of them broke during shipping and some of them after being repaired from general use. And all of that was from cases held together with hot glued or epoxied screwposts.

So maybe I am jaded but I have now built 4 frankenmodded cases. And I have dropped them, shipped them, shook them and abused them with not a single problem.

So I will stick with my assessment that frankenmodded cases are more durable. And yes if properly done I think they look better also.

A matter of opinion, a matter of skill. A frankencase can be ugly and fragile, beautiful or tough, or anything in between. Same goes for any other type of case. Which type of case is the best is matter of opinion. A lot of people love vacuforms, okay cool. You love your frankencases, that's fine too. And there are some that swear by premade cases. Then there's some who build their own cases from plastic, metal, or wood.

I was just annoyed that I posted the pic and you could say was that I was doing wrong, or not in the style of everyone else,
I posted it not to get abuse about which is better, but because I wanted you to like it.
And from the way you said all that, I'm presuming you don't like it at all.

I'm sorry that was not my intention. I was just responding to your post that vacuum forming was so easy you didn't know why anyone would do custom cases. So I was explaining why some of us choose to make custom cases. Thats all.

Sorry if it came acrooss that I didn't like your case. I do like it and I think you have the skill to make it turn out nice :)

Oh right I get you now!
I just want to make a cool portable!

so did some experimenting today and I'll be using wooden dowels and countersunk screws even if they may not look so good on the front of my case, just want it to be held together strong :ninj:

If you use wooden dowels for screwposts, you HAVE to pre-drill your holes! I think that plastic dowels JB welded to the case front on the inside with screws from the back would be better, and plenty strong. That's just me.

so heres the back of the case, only in mold stage.

and the side peices that go in the gaps to add extra comfort when playing:

so, I only need to add the cartridge mold on top and then I'll vacuum form it.
