The screen is actually quite matte, but I'm leaving the protective plastic on as long as possible.

I'm going to incorporate this into the face of the portable, if I'm going to vacuum form the case. Time to hone my bondo skills :)

My cardboard mockup has been educational. This is looking way too thick.

Well, darn it all. I just can't bring myself to do it. Any combination I can think of with both the NES and SNES parts in the portable is just too dang thick. I refuse to build something that looks that chunky.

On the upside, I've got some very accurate drawings in Illustrator of the parts. If I make just an SNES portable using laser cut acrylic and engraving plastic, I should be able to come up with something even better than any of my past projects. I'm forever doomed to build just SNES portables at this rate...

Okay, I haven't posted to this since the end of last year and my post is hardly halfway down the page! Time for some NES/SNES love!

It's been six months, and I'm still kicking myself for not having figured out a good design for a dual SNES and NES portable. Well, I decided to travel the tried and true path and order a case from Polycase. This is the JB-65 I think, and there is a TON of room inside it. It is wide enough for SNES cartridges and NES cartridges to enter it, thick enough for everything including li-poly batteries, and it's pretty comfortable with the tapered sides. Progress is moving rapidly. I hope to have something to show for my work soon.

Screen bezels and hot glue rapid prototyping gel are best friends. You could say they've formed a "permanent bond." I need to find some rubbing alcohol to get rid of that sticker glue stuff on top.

I think I'll put the shoulder buttons on these angled sides.

Friggin' ton of room inside. I can work with this. I'm not out to impress anyone, I just want a dual portable dangit!

The SNES cartridges will stick out the top, the NES cartridges will stick out the bottom. Working on relocating/angling BOTH the SNES and NES cartridge connectors. This will take a while. My hand is starting to cramp so I took the time to write this post.

Trying to keep that post to picture ratio in this work log at least 1:1 like a good gent :tophat:

I finished the SNES cartridge slot relocation.

Using some thick gauge copper wire for both support and relocation of the cartridge slot. Worked well enough on my SuperBoy SNESp, using the same trick for this one too.

I know I'm not breaking new ground with this portable, that's not the point. My amusement is the point. I've always wanted a dual portable, and I'm going to make it happen dangit.

I'm glad this is still WIP! I didn't have time to watch the whole stream thing, but progress looks nice. :D

Thanks! You're not missing much, it's just a hour's worth of relocating a cartridge slot. The most exciting stuff is in the first 20 seconds and last 20 seconds. Honestly I was just testing out live broadcasting through YouTube. It was a novel experience.
