SlotStation Worklog

Welcome to the SlotStation worklog - my latest modding adventure.

This is a project I've been planning since before I finished the Entertain Boy, and I've finally found the time to build it. First off, it will be a home console, not a portable, however it will feature a slot-loading DD! :awesome: The system will most likely be based on the SCPH-1000 PSone and will be encased in clear acrylic. I don't normally start a worklog without some progress, and although I do have some, I don't have any pictures ATM.

I did manage to get the slot-loading part to work. It uses the loading mechanism from an iMac's CD drive. I figured out how to control it with a 556 timer; expect a video tomorrow.

Here's a schematic:

The placement of the switches will make more sense when I explain it in the video.
Expect more updates soon!

For some reason, what comes to mind when I think of slot loading playstation is 2 pancakes with a disk sliding inbetween. Mmm, pancakes...

Someone did, yes, but that was a PSone, and the guy doesn't seem to exist outside of YouTube last time I checked. At least, I think it was a PSone... I can't find the video.

Besides, this is an SCPH-1000, not a PSone.

My bad. It'll be an SCPH-101, you know, the small one.

According to Wikipedia, the 1000 was the first Japanese model.

EDIT FOR PROGRESS:
For testing purposes, I originally had this rigged up with cardboard, which of course was flimsy. Right now I'm in the process of making my design more presentable, so no video until my JB weld cures.

OK so for some reason the timer is being a little bit flaky. I swear this was working yesterday. Since I don't have a video to explain how it works, will these pics suffice?

This is the setup:

On the loading mechanism, there is a guide in the front that opens and closes when a cd is being loaded or ejected. I attached this piece of metal...

...that presses these switches depending on its position (up or down):

Right now the loader will only eject. I'll figure it out eventually.

This project is driving me crazy. I'm probably going to put it on hold for a little while and work on some other stuff, but I will definitely finish it.

dont do it. when i do that, i never get stuff finished. (see: Snes-P)

I want this to get finished.

So finish it.

Spammy update: I'm slowly working on a new solution for the slot-loader, and in the mean time I will be focusing on the system and the casework since those parts are easier for me. I can promise new pics within a week.

hey just curious did u end up finishing this project because i relay looking into a ps1p and id like to make mine with a slot loading mac drive it would slim things down heaps

Nah I never finished. Not because it is impossible, I just completely lost interest. If you're familiar with the 555 timer, it doesn't take too much effort to get it to work.

BTW Don't use my schematic for your project; it is flawed.

no i have no idea about 555 timer to be honet i dont even no what that is i am completly new to everything and wanted to start a ps1p and thought if some one has done a lot station i would do somthing simaler for a portable
