Relocated Cart Slot now my 64 wont work...

Hello all!

So I've started my N64p (work log to follow soon). I have relocated the cart slot using IDE cable,as well as removed the reset button from the board. Like an idiot I did not test the cart slot before removing the reset button but did test it immediately after. I have checked all of my solder points thoroughly and I do not have any bridges or any wires touching. The unit will power on as I have left the red LED intact, but I get no output to my TV. Has anyone ran into this? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try next to trouble shoot it?

Thanks in advance!

Test ask your wires with a multimeter, make sure you don't have any shorts where you don't need them, double check and make sure the cart is in the right way, clean up the flux a bit.

Check all the chip pins and make sure there aren't any flecks of solder on them. Brush the chips with a toothbrush or something. Also, make sure you have a jumper/expansion pack plugged in.

Okay i'll try that. When i was testing it i did have the jumper pack in, that photo was taken after the fact.

Thanks for the replies guys!

SO as I was brushing the chip pins with a small toothbrush I noticed on the side opposite of the red LED on the expansion/jumper pack slot, a small amount of solder across 3 traces, SHwon in the pic with the yellow circle around it:

Seems like that shouldn't be there....

Do you have a desoldering pump? I would get rid of that and hope that you didn't fry the ram...

It's not likely that she survived but stranger things have happened.

Actually, if you used a jumper pak, I'm pretty sure your n64 is okay, it happened to me often and the n64 never fried, if it's an expansion pak I'm not sure, it's not too far, actually you could just use solder braid to remove the solder, it would be very fast and would work easily, just try it ;)

Just put the solder braid on the solder bulb and try to put your iron solder on it and wait for the bulb to be romoved!

Don't listen to them, don't try to desolder it you'll just make it worse. It's likely not actually bonded to the pins. Try to brush it away or pop it off with a small screwdriver or the like. It should come off easily if you didn't intentionally solder those pins.

The N64 should be fine. That kind of thing is very common.

So I tried to pop it off before sticking a hot iron in there and it worked! I kind of had to scrape it off using the exp slot as a lever-point and it came off in one piece. Hooked it up to the TV and botta bing!:

Now that that is straightened out, I can start trimming the board little by little.

Nice! Glad it's alive. Bud has a nice trimming guide in the stickies if you haven't gotten to it already. Good luck on your project!
