Random Error on startup?

I was a bit overwhelmed when I tried doing it (I hadn't found that guide yet)

I had tried burning the insulation off, didn't work to well:

I just ended up getting a megadrive.

I find it impossible to solder to the filters. The solder just blobs up and never sticks to them. Probably due to my cheap radio shack solder, or the old flux I'm using.

I think the FCC cable would be easier in my situation, but I have a different question.

Is it possible to check if a Wiikey works without connecting it to the gamecube?

Is the blue LED simply a power indicator, meaning I can hook it up to an external power source to see if it works?

No the blue light is the chip reading data. Do you have a Wii?

I may have access to one in the near future. I'll try hooking up the WASP to it.
