Quick GBA SP mod question

Thanks a lot, I wasn't sure to resurrect a thread that was old for like... 5 months or more, but I thought it was pretty pointless toa sk something so specific... but I'm pretty sure lots of us have had this idea:
Using an analog stick as a d-pad.
I still don't know where to wire it, or if it is even posible...
on the meantime I'll make a wiring diagram of how I set it up.
I think that's about it... any ideas as to why it doesn't take any input aside from dpad down? (And with this I don't mean to say that it only "reads" the down input, it's stuck there from the get-go)

(So, I'm guessing GBA's is totally digital, right? wiring an analogue device will surely work... nice call...)
Is there a way for this to work? or a fancy alternative? I kinda need this for the control to be awesome... :c
