PS2 79001 disc drive delete.

So I've done as much research into this as I can manage here, but I've come up a little short.

I really want to make a tiny ps2p, but there seems to be a lot of concern as to whether the 79001 is suitable for playing games without the disc drive. Many people say the USB is too slow to play cutscenes in many games but some people don't agree. Is it possible to get a somewhat definitive answer as to whether we can ditch the disc drive on the ps2 79001?

With out a doubt, you can ditch the disc drive using the SCPH-79001 motherboard. Now, the question is: Is the game you want to play compatible with OPL or USB advance?

Personally, I don't think the load times are bad at all. A couple of games don't work with either of the ISO loaders, and most of the FMV cutscenes are slightly laggy. If you can get past the FMV lag, and chance of the game you want to play being unavailable, then yes, we can easily ditch the disc drive.

I used FMCB on my 79001 handheld and it works very well, with the exception of some games not working properly.

Sadly at this juncture I know fairly little about free mcboot etc, so pardon that. Can you have both loaders installed to be able to access games from either list? And where can I find a compatibility list? How much space do most games take up? And does anyone happen to have any current draw measurements without the disk drive? Thanks!
