PS1 screen help needed!

Please help me my ps1 screen backlight wont light up, and I can see the picture very dimly so i know its the backlight. I can hear a little buzz so that means the transformer should be working. I can't figure out whats wrong with it. Also the chip on the back right above the 7805 on the right side gets very very hot immediately when plugged in is this normal? I am also using the original power supply for powering it. All help is appreaciated, thanks.

I'm going to have to say that the chip probably shouldn't be getting all that hot. Look for shorts and whatnot. If you need to replace the backlight try the LED method.

I really can't visibly see anything wrong with it it just kind of puzzled me as to why the chip got that hot, and I really don't want to go through the trouble of doing the LED mod if i don't have to, do you have any other ideas? I could post a picture of the PCB if it would help.

solution: get rid of the stock backlight, replace it with this.
