Nintendo 3DS

So, Nintendo just up and decided to mention their new handheld.

Here's the stuff that's explicitly stated in the press release.

- That a new handheld, called the Nintendo 3DS, will be released sometime during Nintendo's next financial year (Apr 2010 - March 2011).

- It will be capable of producing 3D graphics, without the need for 3D glasses.

- The 3DS will be backwards compatible with the entire line of Nintendo DS products.

- It will be properly revealed during the E3 trade show in Los Angles, which will take place in June.

A *Can'tSayThisOnTV*ing 3D handheld.
For those who don't know, I'm a huge cigarette for 3D, and I have an extensive collection of 3D Glasses, Movies, Pictures, Heck, I even have a 3D Camera.
I'm afraid of how they're going to do it.
I can imagine it working beautifully, but, I have to see it to know!

I say, no. First, way too soon. Didn't they just release the DSi XL? Sure, that was just an incremental upgrade, but it's still too soon. Second, bad name. Whether it is or isn't just a DS with 3D capability, people are going to think that. Third, 3D will probably be awful and give you horrible headaches or something. Lastly, they will probably load it with shovelware.

This is just the code name, like Nintendo Revolution for the Wii, VR32 for the Virtual Boy, Nintendo DS for the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Dolphin for the GameCube. 3DS is such an awful name that it's not likely to stay, unlike the original DS.

I'm glad I held off on buying the DSi.

So is this thing just a DS capable of 3D or is it actually improved too?

IIRC the original DS's code name was Nitro.

Improved graphics too from what I've heard. It's the successor to the DS.

The same thing happened to the GBA Micro. It's a habit Nintendo has.

1. Great name. It's already grown on me. The Wii took a few weeks.
2. 3D? Do you have to hold it sideways and cross your eyes?
3. All of you naysayers will eat crow when it comes out. Nintendo knows what they're doing, and the DS and Wii both received similar hate pre-release and are still flying off of shelves.

I'm still going to buy an XL. Probably.

Oh lawdy, every few years their is a big 3D fad.

Nintendo 3DS might be popular for a little while, but it will fail as soon as everyone stops giving a flax about 3D, just like every other time this has happened.

Unless they are talking about like this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnhFRr7DBGg then its gonna be awesome.

To everyone who's complaining about Nintendo just releasing the DSi XL: Shut up. That was a hugely missed opportunity to bring back the GBA slot, and because they didn't, the DSi XL is just incredibly stupid. Sure, it may be easier to see, but the DSi's screens are perfectly fine, not to mention the DSi can actually fit in your pocket.

But now that they've got the 3DS coming out, I'm going to be so pissed if they don't announce something like Virtual Handheld or something alongside it, to download GB/GBC/GBA games on the DSi Store.

I don't even want it to be called a ds, and probably not have 2 screens. I would prefer 1 screen that is touch. But they probably wouldn't want to give up backwards compatibility.

I just want a new hand held, I don't want an upgrade of a system the I've bought 3 times before, seriously.

At least fix some things, like the resolution and make them squishy buttons instead of clicky. I wish nintendo would just have something completely new, not another DS.

This... is pretty new. it's much more than just a redesign, this is a new system. yes, it will have two screens, but that's like saying the GameBoy Advance is the same as the GameBoy Color because it has one screen and it can play GBC games.

What? DSi XL wasn't aimed at people like you who want GBA games, but rather, the mostly untapped market of older "non"gamers. Older people prefer larger screens and a larger touch pen. Why else would burgundy be the default color? Plus, larger screens are nice for at home use, when you don't have to worry about portability.

I can't say I care much for 3D, and I'm not excited about this next generation of 3D TVs.

I sure hope Nintendo can sell me on this. :neutral2:
