Nes Cartridge to play on pc

Hi,
Does anyone know of hardware that is available or information on programming to be able to play the NES Cartridge on your PC??

I know of emulators but I want to be able to physically put a cartage into the slot and make it work on the computer!

I don't know about that one... If you were to use the original cart, I would think you would need to use the original cart slot... you would have to get it to hook up through usb or something.... write the drivers for your NES cart reader, write software that can utilize said cart slot...

I suppose you could put the NES hardware in your computer's case, cut a cart slot, and find a way to wire the video to your monitor :p

anyways, why?

There's a NES/SNES USB Dual Cart Slot on Stone Age Gamer but it's like $80.

Ok first off for the software part what language would you recommend using to write up the driver and software? for the hardware part what would you recommend doing altogether do you think it would be possible to wire the cartridge connector directly to USB??
LOL the reason why is i built an NES PC and instead of and i want to keep the idea of having to put the cartridge through the slot :tophat:
Also i want to be able to minimize any additional hardware needed because i don't have room!!

You ask "why"?

Why do modders do any of the things they do?

Indeed, I was just trying to figure out what he was looking to accomplish :p

jbbenz, I have very little programming experience (aside from html, little to none). I don't even know where one would begin to write that kind of thing. Sorry!

You said you built an NES PC? Do you have pics? I guess I just don't understand what you mean by NES PC, did you just move the NES hardware to a computer case or something?

I will put up pics later this week hopfully!
An NES PC is a full PC in the NES Case. the thing is i have room to put the cartrige in to the slot and i can figure out how to fix it an put it in. the problem will be getting it to comunicate with the computer! i thought of making it in to a usb and reading the cartrige that way ?! but how the heck is that posible?? how do you make a usb program??
I really dont want to get stuck on this!!!
Someone please HELP :cry4:

I don't think StoneAgeGamer sells them anymore. Unless you are a talented programmer and have lots of experience, I don't think you can make your own.

sadly, thats SNES and Genny. no NES. however, you could talk to the guys on there and see about a NES one. but the thing i would be tempted to do it take an NES cart, put a usb stick in it, put a bunch of ROMs on it and use it with an EMU. that way, you are "playing from the cart" but, you know, its easy.

But that's cheating! And besides, the Retrode is cooler. I've actually been musing over getting one myself, but I don't have the cash. I am, however, subscribed to the feed. There are easy to use adapters for the Retrode that allow it to play gameboy series, n64, atari 2600, but so far there is no NES adapter. The people (or person), won't do special wishes, so you'll either have to do it yourself, wait for it to come out, or purchase a Retrode and figure out how to do it. I can't imagine that it would be EXTREMELY difficult, but I don't think a beginner would be able to do it without guidance. I reccomend waiting, unless you're willing to risk losing a good amount of cash. I believe that you'd have to regulate the voltage, and possibly the main problem would be finding the right pins.. However, with all the adapters for the Retrode, I think it would be well worth it, even without the NES capabilities. However, you need to download your own emulators. If you prefer to try it yourself, just think long and hard before you do something, you don't want to have to buy several of these things.

you will need an emulator no matter what if you are using a pc... although I guess it's possible to use n64 carts instead of roms but you would have to make a plugin or something for an emu

OK what would you guys think of the CopyNES?
The CopyNES only connects to the pc for dumping/flashing carts. Unless you are an assembly programmer with an interest in programming for the NES it would be pointless. If you wanted to make NES fit inside the pc, then connect it to a video capture card on your PC, that would be one option.

I found a post on Hackaday that actually lists the parts to make the first version of the Retrode and it doesnt seem so hard to make. Since he pretty much used a microcontroller to make it, I though about using an Arduino to make one similar. And I might try to build one whenever I can get an Arduino. :)
