N64 testing game

I was thinking to day about when testing an n64p, you need a few games to test some settings. This can be annoying and you can miss something. For example, I didn't even notice the expansion pak wasn't working on the starlight 64 until after I build it.

So then take benhecks xbox 360 control testing indicator that he built for IW. What if we made one of these in rom form. Now that the neo64 is out, we could use it to test n64Ps. Now testing would be rare since not a lot of us have one, but for those of us who do have some way of putting the rom on the n64p it would be pretty useful.

The program in question would be pretty simple as far as a game goes. It just has to test the 14 standard buttons, joystick, and if there is an expansion pak inserted. And maybe a memory pak and rumble pak tester plus a few bells and whistles. (like up time or something)

Here's something I think would be look good.

And maybe an alternative to this would be a rom that runs the n64 at max load so we can test the most power it draws and heat it produces. Although we could probably just run perfect dark with max bots or something.

I'd like to make it myself but I don't know the first thing about coding or programming.

So what do you guys think? It might not be worth it now because neo64's are expensive, but marshall still has his emulator on the way. Do you thinks it's worth it to make?

maybe if we used some generic plug thing for all the controls to flow through, which would also make closing up the portable easier.

Yes but everyone would have to build their own, and testing the tact switches is not exactly the same thing as playing them in game.

sounds very interesting. I would like to see something done about it because it would make testing a lot easier.

You need a flashcard for this.

Just get Pokemon Stadium. It recognizes every single button in the battle menu.

I was thinking this would be quicker then setting up a game. Plus by the time you set up the game most of the controls work. They only thing making this impractical is requiring a flash card. And I don't see the neomyth going down in price anytime soon.

I think that this is sorta a good idea, but in the end, you need a flashcart. It is a lot of time and effort for something we can accomplish for free, so I doubt many people would run with it.

Well how about a list of games that accept what buttons and where? If we list a few of the more common ones (the classics), pretty much anyone could know how to test it without having to buy anything

Well perfect dark can test all of the buttons, it also can use rumble, use the memory pak, and detect expansion pak. So perfect dark is probably the best one.
