n64 controller w/ blackberry trackball?

i was just browsing around and i found this blackberry trackball with a breakout board

since it has the same sort of... out? as a gamecube controller would (up/down/left/right) i was wondering if modding a thirdparty controller with it, much like you would make a controller with a gcn toggle, except it would have a blackberry trackball. it would be a bit pricey and not that practical, but it would be COOL . im just wondering if this theory would work or would it just not work for some reason

I doubt it would work, as it uses hall effect sensors. You would need a lot of external circuitry to get it to work. Maybe on a Dreamcast controller though. Using a trackball instead of a stick seems kind of awkward to me.
