My Wii won't boot :(

So a while ago I hacked my Wii and put homebrew channel on it and stuff. When I had it connect to a new internet connection it stopped halfway through with an error saying it lost the connection. Then it turned off and when I turn it back on it stops at the preloader saying it can't boot system menu. Is this Wii broken for good or is there something I can do to fix it?

uh oh, you updated? the folks at wiibrew have been saying not to update since 4.2 came out. That's not a good thing to hear. I honestly have no idea what condition your wii is now in, but it doesn't sound good.

my suggestion would be to go on over to wiibrew and see if they know anything about it.

If I had the Homebrew Channel on my wii (I didnt download DvDx or anything else) and then uninstalled it and removed the homebrew files from my sd card would it be safe to update?

really, updating shouldn't brick your system anyways, its just suggested that you don't. I believe one of the problems is that the update tries to overwrite boot2 where bootmii is installed, and this has caused some systems to brick-- even systems that never had been homebrew hacked.

The real question is, why would you want to update?

Theres not really a reason, I just wanted to update. :awesome:
If I removed all the homebrew does that boot mii is gone to?

Really, don't bother updating. system menu 4.2 and 4.3 add nothing and are only around for the purpose of getting rid of homebrew.

As for bootmii, I would assume you don't have it to start with since you said all you installed was the Homebrew Channel. Regardless as to whether or not you have bootmii, the update will try to overwrite that space in boot2 which has the ability to brick a system.

I had to update. Once when I put in a new game and then again when I added a new internet connection. The popped up with a message that said I had to update. First time it went smoothly and everything worked afterwards but it crashed during the internet connection one saying it lost the connection. Then it rebooted and it cant get to the system menu. I've tried exiting from the Homebrew channel and just going to it normally. Nothing works.

OK. So I looked through the Wiibrew stuff and this is what I need to do:

Using Preloader

Requires: Preloader
-Configured to boot something other than the System Menu

Simply boot a recovery program the way you would any other. if you have Preloader installed, but it boots to the System Menu then try holding down reset when you turn on your Wii, after a few seconds of holding reset the Preloader menu should appear.

Only problem is I don't know what recovery program to use. I don't even know of any except for the $40 Savemii

Ok, go ahead and get "dopmii" and with that download and reinstall the system menu back on your system (if the latest one doesn't work, try 4.2 or 4.1), and once you get that working go ahead and update your IOSs and trucha patch them from dopmii as well and get rid of any stub IOSs. If that doesn't work, get the safe 4.3 updater and try running that. Post back your results here.

PS: Next time a game tells you to update, DON'T. Just update your IOSs manually and stay at the current system menu version.

Yup, I've been ignoring the updates since I got NSMBW. I just booted into the homebrew channel and loaded the game through GeckoOS. Mario Galaxy 2 required me to install a CIOS, but that's not a big deal. Can't load some games through the system menu, but I rarely go there anymore anyways.

Wii update 4.2(and 4.3, probably) updates the boot2 to boot2v4, causing some wiis to brick in the process of installation, even ones that aren't in any way hacked.
Next time, use waninkoko's updater to update without losing any functionality, it won't update anything but the system menu itself.

So once I download and install dopmii, do I download the system menu through dopmii or do I have to get it off the internet? If I have to get it on the computer, where do I get it from. I googled it but couldn't find it.

Get it through Dopmii, it should work fine as long as your wifi settings are correct.

This thing is all fixed and stuff. But Zero mentioned having to upgrade the IOS's manually. How do I know what IOS's to upgrade?

Ok, so this is a different problem but I don't think there's any point in making a new thread. I have been using WiiMC for a while for all my multimedia needs. It hasn't had a problem reading my USB HDD but I used the WiiMC IOS202 installer so it would play DVD's (it said I couldn't play DVD's without installing it). Now the Wii won't read my HDD. It's getting power because it's spinning and it works in my computer, but it doesn't work with any application. Is there something wrong with the IOS?

Side note: The IOS 202 installer looked for a vulnerable IOS and tried to use IOS 60 every time and didn't work. I tried one more time a few days later and it used IOS 36 and it worked and installed correctly. That's when my USB HDD stopped working.

I'm not very familiar with WiiMC and IOS 202, but it really should have nothing to do with why your USB HDD is not working in other apps. Try reinstalling the latest revision of cIOS 249 and make sure that the other apps you are trying to use the USB HDD with use IOS 249. You might also want to try using another usb hard drive or a usb stick and see if one of those works.
