Led mod a 360 controller

I have had this MadCatz third party 360 controlelr for a long time ( i do not own a 360 i only use this contoller on my computer )

I thought it would be cool if i could led mod it

here are some pics

1.) what voltage does the controller take when connected to the usb
2.) I have a 1.7 volt 20MAH led so what resistor should i get

USB == 5v at 500mah.
Standard. Always.

USB has four wires, 5V, Ground, and TWO Data lines.
Your Green and White there are both Data lines.

u were correct..... almost i got 4.95v on the MM

Well, jlee, the ipad charges through USB, but it won't charge on normal usb connections as it needs moar juice.

Ok the things i got are...

25w sodering iron
solder
20G wire
3.2v 20MAH blue led
1/8 100 Ohm resistor
=====questions======

is it ok to use 25W soldering iron
is it ok to use 20g wire

The soldering iron is fine as long as you are careful.

That gauge of wire is kinda big, but it works fine. If you want to work with it and don't mind, then so be it. But you are welcome to use smaller wire

i screwed up...
the led worked....
but..........

I don't know how to solder... so i decied to use tape

so i put the led in place and it started to glow

then while it started to tape it the metal part of the led began to touch the data part of the controller

so i took off the tape and tryed again

i failed again so i just took off the tape

and i decided to wait until i learned to solder

then when i plugged it back in my computer didn't detect it

any ideas

sigh...

Soldering is not hard, especially for something that simple.

pvc electric tape, and i never said i soldering was hard i said i don't know how to do it

for god sake it goes up to 600 farenheit

So do the machines that solder the controllers during production. As long as you don't hold the iron against components, and make quick contact when you solder, you'll be fine.
