Learning java?

Does anyone know of any good books or places to learn java programming?

I'd like to make some simple programs for my computer, or even small games.

Please learn a better language. Java is a nasty little monster. Personally I would go with C. Or Pascal (Delphi). Python is quite useful too, but more so on linux than windows.

Check out Big Java By Cay Hortsmann... Thats what i used and its not completely noobish but its understandable.

I just actually took the AP test, though I doubt you would want to learn out of a textbook.
I'm not sure if somebody with no java background would have an easy time using this site because it's mainly for reference, but a good one I've found for learning a lot of stuff is http://www.leepoint.net/notes-java/index.html
