Genesis 3 tear-down and documentation (56K FAIL)

Well, I can't really take any more pictures, as the board has been modified.

I noticed on my Genesis that I was able to remove two capacitors without anything bad happening. So I went and removed all but three electrolytic capacitors from the board. Out of those three, one was used for sound, one seemed to give garbled video without it, and the other seemed to handle power. I will take pics soon.

Be careful about removing "extraneous" capacitors. Most are probably for power filtering, which means it will run without them but it will be sensitive to power spikes and dips. Maybe add some to the power supply?

I thought it wouldn't matter since the power is supplied to everything from a regulated 5v source.

As long as your regulated source is very well regulated, it should be alright. Just be careful with it.

Yeeeeah, about that. I just tested my Genesis a bit futher. It works fine, but something weird's happening. The text is getting messed up in game, and so are some pictures. I gonna look into it a bit further, and see which cap messed this up. It was working fine till now. :gonk:
