GBC sound problem

I picked up a Game Boy Color today at a local flea market.

When i got it home and tried it I found that the sound from the speaker is practically inaudible, though it does produce some (distorted) sound. Headphones do work correctly.

I tried cleaning out the headphone jack with alcohol, and I also tried cleaning out the volume control to no avail.

Would the next step be to replace the speaker?

I have a busted DS Lite with its speakers hanging around somewhere, would one of those speakers wok for the GBC, or is it too big to fit?

Thanks in advance!

sounds to me like the speaker is blown. It's hard to blow a gameboy speaker because the volume doesn't go up that high. But yeah, try replacing it.

Yup, a new speaker fixed it. I was able to use one from the busted DS Lite that I mentioned. I just had to cut out some plastic around where the original speaker was to fit the part where the terminals are on the DS Lite Speaker. The actual diameter of the speaker itself is the same.

Thanks a bunch :)
