Is there any way to remove the controller/ power part of the gameboy color and split it in two, and move them apart?

Yes, it is very possible. Just cut the board in half, and use wires to connect the broken traces.

Less than 20 traces pretty easy to do actually.

Yes, this should make a couple of things easier. Thanks. I asked because I wasnt sure if this was safe to attempt, and I thought it could break if I did this.

Yes, I've done this. I would suggest removing the white silkscreen layer to make it easier. I didn't, and I missed a few things the first time. I tripped and dropped the stupid thing though and ruined it, so I can't show you

Sandpaper.

Under the silkscreen is the more normal green-tinted resin or similar coating, which is pretty tough, so don't feel scared with the sandpaper.
