Gamecube Video Out.

Well I'm going to be starting my gamecube portable after I obtain all of my parts for my build. I don't know too much about video but I cant justify getting a 200$ component cable of ebay. (I haven't checked my local game shops yet).

A couple questions.

1. Is there any way to get 480p/i over the A/V composite out (using swiss forcing 480p). I found this screen and it says it can support 480p but is that even possible over composite?

2. If I get the above screen and it doesn't support 480p will it look any better then say a lower resolution screen?

3. Should I just get a pal gamecube motherboard and a good dalian 5 inch screen. (Dunno what else is required but I know Pal cubes support RGB output without the 200$ cable.)

So what have you guys done? Please let me know any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I'm just trying to get the best possible looking video I can get, without breaking the bank.

Forcing 480p on the GameCube will cause it to output only digitally, shutting off analog outputs. Composite video, S-video, and I believe even RGB on the PAL Cube are shut off.

I don't know why that screen says "HD" because 480p is only SD. It probably is the resolution it claims to be, 800 x 480, seeing as it's a rather large 5" screen. It will look pretty good.

Just having RGB output is not enough to use VGA on a Dalian screen. It will work for SCART as long as you have a composite signal too, but VGA needs horizontal and vertical sync. There are ways to convert composite video to H-sync and V-sync but I can't tell you whether it'll work well or even work at all. Lastly, since RGB goes through the AV chip, it won't come through when you force 480p (I'm pretty sure). It will go no higher than 480i. 480i still looks very good, though.
