If you cut off the controller transistors, could you just wire the things for player 1 and player 2 and leave the p3 and p4 ports alone?
Also, when cutting the board, what grit do you use, and how long do you sand it?

Yes, you can rewire just player 1 and/or player 2 on the controller transistors, leaving the others alone.
