Gamecube fan does nothing. Resurrection?

I bought a GCN from a thrift store for $8 (came with an off-brand controller, and Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly). I found that when I got it home and tried it out all went well, except the fan sat motionless.

I can play for a good 30-40 minutes and then the GCN will overheat and shut itself down. I was wondering if anyone in the community knew of any way of resurrecting the fan.
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting it a couple times, cleaning it off with some compressed air, and I dropped a bit of lube into the inner mechanism which helped it to rotate a bit better, but still no luck.

Is it normal for the fan to not be 'bouncy' when it comes to a stop (how CPU fans are)? I've never taken a Gamecube apart before today so I'm not really too sure what to expect from it

Thanks in advance for your help.

PS - I found a replacement fan on eBay for a couple bucks but I wanted to see if there was any free alternative first

I've actually have had something like this happen to me a couple of times.
What had happened was one of the chips had fried on the little fan board.
Peel back the sticker and see if there is like a chip that has a "bubble" i guess
you could say. Just look at the fan board and see if anything is burnt out.
Sometimes It's sorta hard to tell so look closely.
Hope this helps.
Also,If one of them is burnt out then, just get a new fan then instead of spending
the trouble and time to fix it.

It doesn't really look as if it has any "bubbles" on the chip, and the soldering looks good as well. I did end up buying a replacement fan (found one on eBay for $5).

If replacing the fan piece doesn't work I guess I'll think about finding a different GCN :(

Hey, the guy I bought it from has a 7 day return policy ;)

I'll take you up on it if you're serious dude. I'm pretty low on cash so even saving a couple bucks would help
