Elephant64 Worklog

wired up my fan to the battery. It runs at a nice quiet speed. I will just have it wired up so it only turns on when the n64 is on but wont turn on when just the screen is on.

If you want, connect the positive wire of your fan to the output leg on the n64's 7805. Connect the fan's ground to the n64's ground, and it will work fine. The fan will be using the 5v it originally did, and it will only turn on when you n64 is turned on.

No, but it will run at it's intended speed. As a rule of thumb, it's usually best not to over volt anything very much. It never hurts to under volt anything. Though it's unlikely, your fan could burn out over time. And that would suck.

Here's a link on how to wire switches to the psone screen: http://kyorune.com/modding/article.php?id=56

I got the buttons working by doing the relocation thingy...but my speakers aren't working. I plugged in headphones and they worked fine. is there a place where I can relocate the speaker + lines other than to those pins on the chip?

I'm starting to hate this portable....a lot. I just had to take out the joystick....again because it was not wired right  then I put it back in and it stopped working correctly...again. I just took it out again and will try to fix it tomorrow. :wtf:

My dad said he would buy me a nice Weller soldering station. The good blue one. Soon I'll be soldering in style! :awesome:

Oh. And pics.....tomorrow. (technically pics.....today since it's 2 in the morning. I forgot that people have to sleep sometimes.)

Got everything wired up and working.........or so i thought. N64 and screen are working properly....but those Dang controls! Everything is wrong with them! My joystick stopped working all of a sudden..Z doesn't work anymore! and the external controller doesn't work either! I'm done for now. Pics when everything works properly. I probably won't get around to it until this weekend. But it doesn't make any sense! They were working fine before. I didn't touch them. But when I thought I was done, all my controls fall apart!!!!! :gonk: :gonk:  :gonk:

Demoralizing feeling isn't it? haha. I've been there, but it turned out to be just a loose wire. One that was fixed, everything worked like charm!

Ok so this is done. I think I just forgot to tell anyone besides those in chat. Just some fixup work to make playing better.

Things to do:
1. audio amp for speakers. wired up to ps1 screen in multiple places and didn't work. headphone jacks do though.
2. fix volume up and down and brightness down.
3. fix whatever is wrong with right C
4. rewire 1st player switch (run + AND signal through the SPDT switch because it flips out when there's no controller in the first player port) and rewire 2nd player port (system freezes when I put a controller in there. I think it's backwards).

Other than that....it works :) I brought it on a field trip on friday and the battery lasted pretty much the whole day (not constantly on though :dahroll: my friends and I played smashbros a lot on the bus and in english class when the teacher wasn't looking

I'm sorry for bringing this thing back up from the dead, but I am starting to get sick of looking at the piece of crap that is this portable. I'm going to be recasing this in an AG-85 this summer. I'm sorry Jelly, but it probably won't fit inside my pocket, but this time I'm going to use ABS, epoxy, sandpaper, and paint. Internal cart slot too. I'll post some progress soon. If it actually looks nice this time, I'll be selling it.
