Easy gamecube question

I'm building a GCP, and today my 6th gamecube motherboard died on me. I'm gonna get some more and was considering buying a lot of "as is" gamecubes on ebay. Some gamecubes are described as having trouble with reading discs, while others wont power on. I'm fairly certain that if a gamecube wont read discs, then it's only an issue with the disc drive, which wont matter since I'm using a wiikey fusion.

However, if a gamecube wont power on at all, would it be accurate to assume that only the regulator is at fault? (maybe due to a power surge/burned fuse). In that case, I could just replace the regulator or use a custom one.
Basically what's the most likely issue for a gamecube to not power on? I'd like to figure out my chances of it being repairable.

I've bought non powering gcs before and sometimes it's as simple as then being dusty. I'd say if you can get them cheap go for it. What is your price range range for the boards? The gc market where I am is good I've been able to get working systems no controllers for 7$. I could maybe send you a board if thatd be cheaper than eBay.

I don't have much of a price limit, but I'm trying to stay cheap. There's a lot of two gamecubes for $24 and four gamecubes for $35
I'm PMing you about what boards you've got..
