Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

Looks like you got something purdy coming along there. Any idea on what batteries you're going to use? If not, I would suggest buying on high-amperage 3.7v cell and step it up to 5v and down to 3.3v for the system. It would allow you to use a single cell only, which could help in this case. (No pun intended.)

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

I haven't yet decided on which batteries I will use yet, but I will soon. I should have room enough. (I haven't yet removed my exp. port thing from the bottom of my mobo.)

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

Are you sure the board died? You relocated that cart slot with rather LONG wires...

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

I'm about 100% sure from that side profile pic that you could fit 2 Li-Po cells or 4 Li-Ion cells in there at about 4000-4500mAh.

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

Hey Toast, how would you step it up to 5v? Also can the n64 run on that low of power?

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

Stepping it up would require a pretty simple circuit, DC/DC Boost regulator, I know a pretty simple one that can do 500mAh from a 2-4.5v input.

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

I think you mean zeturi :p But yeah the N64 can run like that. You'd just need a more powerful audio circuit as you wouldn't be supplying the N64 with the 12v that audio circuit needs, so it just needs extra boosting. Keep in mind that with this setup you will not get as good of battery life due to the stepping up, although it shouldn't affect it too much.

I have a TI boost regulator that can boost to 5v. Don't remember what it's called :p

A TI PTH08000 won't do you any good for regulating to 3.3v as the minimum input is 4.5v.

Both regulators would need to accept 2v to be safe because a li-ion cell drops down to about 2.something volts when it's nearing the end of its cycle and if the regulators minimum is only about 3v, the whole system will cut out once the battery's voltage goes below that, even if its cycle isn't complete yet.

Also, I haven't been able to get that 3.5" screen to run off 3.7v. It might run off 5.

EDIT: You would input the 5v to the the 5v part of the board (leg closest to the controller ports on the 7805) and not input anything into the 12/7.4v line.

WTF toast don't tell him that! :o

The audio circuit RUNS on 5v naively. That's why the 7805 is there.

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

The Objective64 - WILL IT COME BACK TO LIFE?

Hey guys,

My portable, the Objective64, is looking pretty dead right now. I gone through 3 mobos, 3 screens, 2 controllers, about 3 or 4 attempted audio amp circuits (and all the parts), and all the labor wiht NO PAYOFF WHATSOEVER. Its looking pretty glum. I need some help if you guys believe in me.

Need a CHEAP N64 mobo.
Need a 3.5" ebay screen that is PROVEN to work. (Because the first one I bought worked, but died shortly there after, and the next two I bought didn't work at all!!)

I'll do my best to continue my project.

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

I have a working 3.5 that I'd be willing to part with. What's your offer?

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

Hey, mymixed, I PMed you (in case you have more than one)

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY

Thanks to budnespid for the screen! I think im back to life!

Re: The Objective64 Worklog Thread - FINALLY
