Bugman's PS2 portable WIP

The very few ps2p's have always interested me, but it strikes me as a hard system to turn into a portable. Now that I have 4 portables under my belt, I'm ready for a challenge!

I've designed my ps2p to resemble a ps vita. I will be ditching the disc drive because it limits the size of the portable, and I dont have a huge ps2 game library, so I'm going to be using freemcboot instead. I know almost nothing about freemcboot so I'm hoping Raizer can help me out with that.

I want this portable to be the best ps2p yet so I'm going to be designing a super awesome case on google sketchup and I will have it 3d printed for me.

Trimming: I want to get the width of the portable down to 4 inches or as close as I can to 4 inches. I dont have a ps2 motherboard I can cut up so I dont know where I need to trim it to make 4 inches. I designed a trim on a picture of a 7900 motherboard.

If you noticed the yellow line underneath the bluetrim, this is so that way if the red trim isnt 4 inches or below, I might be able to do the yellow trim but I think its a waste to trim it more if I dont need the space and I might risk breaking a few boards by experimenting with this complicated motherboard. I dont have a ps2 mobo yet so I havent gotten a chance to look at the underside of the board so I dont know what I'm cutting off yet. But by looking at the front of the board, the trim looks doable.

If anyone has a 7900 motherboard at hand, I was wondering if you could get the dimensions of that yellow/red trim for me?

Here's the design that I quickly drew up on paint.net. Everything is basicly to scale. I will be using psp dpad and action buttons. I will use some sort of madcatz thumbstick since that 3rd party brand usually has small thumbsticks in their controllers. I will probably 3d print the shoulder buttons if I can print them clear, or I will just cut them out of some plastic. The dimensions of the ideal case is about 4 x 7.5 inches. The screen is a 5 inch widescreen.

Looking forward to it!

You could laser cut the shoulder buttons on a thick acrylic sheet (8mm~10mm). Will look exactly like the PS Vita shoulders.

I've been looking at doing something very similar.
What is cut off of the board in each trim? (Besides all the ports...)

I havent gotten a ps2 board to fool around with yet, but it doesnt look like much of anything important is being cut off. Just got to trace everything back as far as they go, and I think ashen told me that the trim cuts off a power line to the audio amp though which doesnt sound like a big deal though.

I got a bunch of supplies so I can actually make this now. I got a ps2 slim and the ac adapter since I only own a ps2 fat. I got a sony ps2 controller. I bought a 6.2 inch screen from ebay. My favorite thing I bought was 2 wii u controllers cases. They are really sweet. They even have hinges witch will make this portable easy to open even though I'll probably make screw posts anyway.

The ac adapter hasnt shown up yet since it requires a signature at the door and no one is ever home during the day. The screen is coming from china so I wont see i for a month. For now, I can do some frankencasing on the case with the controller I got.

I disassembled the ps2. Fortunetly, I will only have to square the board off to fit it in the wii u case and I'm glad because the ps2 motherboard looks really complicated.

I bought some filler sandable primer. It worked pretty good I'd say but it smells terrible. The front half is practically done, but the bottom half is a mess of bondo.
