BIOS/Setting Batteries

XCVG

ModRetro Legend
So both my XBOX and my Dreamcast don't remember dates when the power gets unplugged. Are they supposed to? I know the Dreamcast has a battery in it, not sure about the XBOX.

Also, my VMU beeps on startup. The batteries are dead, right?

I BELIEVE both have batteries for saving things like that.

As for the VMU, would you believe I've never had one die?

The xbox has no eeprom battery, it forgets the date and time when you unplug it for half an hour or more

The Xbox has a Capacitor you can replace with a larger capacitor. An Aerogel Capacitor or some flax.
As for the Dreamcast, the battery is on the controller board. Just replace it.

Afro, would that solve the calendar resetting problem? If so, linky?
yes, it does. problem is, you need a controller board with a good battery to swap it with.
i have done this to a dreamcast, and to my knowledge, it still hold the time, right Afro?

a cheaper but slightly more difficult method would be to buy a new rechargeable CR2430 battery and replace it. problem is, you need to solder to the surface of the battery without frying it. its not easy.

as for the xbox, it uses a capacitor, as has been stated. it may be possible to replace it with a standard eeprom battery, but dont quote me on that. ;)
