Battery Question

I have two 3.7V Lithium Ion Batteries running in series to get 7.4V. So when fully charged up, they should read about 8.3V or so correct? Well after they finished charging, with a protection circuit, they read 9.3V

I'm pretty darn sure my multimeter is correct, as the only thing that would cause a false reading is the battery dying, and that would mean it would show a reading lower than it's supposed to. I think...

I bought two 7.4V battery packs, and they came with the protection circuit, and charger. The other one reads at about 8.3V when fully charged, so I don't know why it is doing that... I've had both battery packs for quite sometime, and this is the only time this has ever happened.

Is this a problem, or is the battery just fine?

EDIT: I have done nothing and the battery is reading at about 8.9V now.

7.4V is the mean voltage. At full charge, you will get a higher value, and when at a lower charge, you will get a lower value.
That's why you need a voltage regulator.

Most consoles will run between 7.4-9, but some are pretty picky.

Thanks for replying. But it just seemed weird that it jumped up to 9V, everyone says that it should be around 8.3V at full charge.

You used a smart charger right? Just making sure they're not overcharged.

Yup, when I plugged it in, it was on the 11.1V or something. So I just switched it to 7.4V, but that only lasted a second.

It's not overcharged, 9V is pretty normal for cheaper cells. I've had several of my 11.2V cells jump to approx 14V at one point. Depending on the battery, I've noticed they aren't very accurate in voltage.
