Method 2: Solder to the ribbon
I use this method because it saves a little room. I attempted it the first time while waiting for a breakout board in the mail. When the board arrived it was the wrong type, but by that stage my chip was installed and working fine!

It’s important to avoid burning/melting the cable. Using flux helps tremendously to get the solder to stick quickly and accurately to the wire tips and the ribbon cable tabs themselves. Using too much solder will risk bridging multiple pins, which will then need to be heated again to be fixed (risking melting).
